MARIA LUISA TOP

This top is designed and inspired by Maria Luisa de Medici. She was one of the most influential women of her time as she is the one who created the law that all art owned or bought by the Medici Family would stay in the city center of Florence forever. This law is still held strong and this is why you MUST come to Florence to see many of the amazing works of the Italian Renaissance.

This top is knit in the round from the bottom up. Following the chart or written instructions, you will work the cables up the body finishing with the diamond shaped Medici Chart. Then you will work the rest of the body, which can be altered to your preferred length, before dividing parts for making the cups. Each of the two sides are worked identically, ending with the strap where the straps are worked long enough to be tied in a bow at the top of the shoulder.

Designed to fit with at -1 to +1” (-2.5 to +2.5 cm) of ease.

Yarn LionBrand - Truboo, 100% bamboo, 100g, 220m (241yds), Slate. Yarn weight #3 DK/Light worsted plant based yarn like bamboo, linen or cotton.

If you are using the sample yarn you will need about 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) [4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5] for sizes A (B, C, D, E, F) [G, H, I J, K L].
For this pattern, I recommend a plant fiber such as cotton, linen, or bamboo. This design is not tested in wool or acrylics, and I don’t think that those fibers will do you any favors as this top is intended to have drape and an open fabric.

Difficulty Challenging. Intermediate knitters and above levels will find this pattern easy. Test knitters all rated an average of 3 dots for this top.
